Big Bend Texas - My Existential Crisis

30 days backpacking in the desert sounded like a good idea, but with no books, phones or other contact with civilization, I was bored as hell - and also very, very tired. Luckily I was with some amazing people who encouraged me to sketch and journal otherwise this page wouldn’t exist.

In no chronological order, here is what I did.

Using the landscape for inspiration.

What makes a drawing real. All of these were done using the desert around me for inspiration and yet not one is traditionally realistic. I prefer it that way. Instead of the way it was exactly, I captured the feeling of where I was. These drawings represent the emotion of the space around me and not just how it looked.
