Life in Action

In 2019 I was lucky enough to go abroad with my school and spend a month doing art and drawing the streets of Sevilla, Spain. This page is a recollection of my favorite drawings from that time.

For me, this course was very formative in regards to understanding my art style and preferred subject matter. I had complete freedom of subject matter within the city and was simply expected to complete a major piece every 2 days.

The lack of structure was a blessing. I simply created what I wanted and I didn't worry about it too much. Once I finished a piece, I put it out of my mind. I never thought that they would have to fit together.

Instead of stressing about every little thing, I stopped worrying about it all. I never once brought out a finished piece again. Or at least that was true until the final day of the class. I saw all of ,my work laid out together and I was proud of all that I had done and accomplished. Not only was I proud of each piece, but everything fit together as if I had been planning it the whole time. As someone who had always been insecure about not having an artistic style, realizing that all my work did indeed have common threads was the catalyst towards looking seriously at my relationship with art and whether it could be a true career for me.
